The Morning Cuppa: Folkestone Calling ’24

Saturday, August 10th 2024: It’s happening. Daiana and I are going back to Folkestone. A certain week in September. Er…August actually. Just decided yesterday to share this with Daiana, but its been in my head for months. Now it’s done. And on the cheap. Cadged a flight on some budget airline called Tui from Girona direct to Gatwick. Nice short commutes from house to aeropuerto. And no need to deal with Barcelona. It won’t be a certain weekend in September like back in Euro Militaire days. That’s gone now. But we’re there for a certain week in August.
And so it begins anew where it first began on August 20th 2003. With an email. And email sent to The Clifton Hotel reception and then replied to by a receptionist named Philippa. And here we are twenty-one years later and I’ve received conformation from reception at The Clifton from none other than Philippa.
The email where it all began. The email from Philippa at The Clifton confirming my very first stay at the hotel which would in so many ways change my life. Recieved this in my apartment in NYC before R&R experienced explosive growth.
