The Morning Cuppa…Day of Days

Posted on August 18, 2024

Monday, 19 August: Day of Days

We’re down to it now. 24 hours to kick off. It’s the day before. And the time I am most exhilarated. Since 2012 all my visits to Euro Militaire, Euro Miniatures Expo and later still Folkestone originated from my home in the Costa Brava. That day

Day of 3.38am

before I was always up before the dawn at my desk watching as the night sky blanched with the first hints of the new day, thrilled to finally be heading back to Folkestone for Euro Militaire. By such time as Daiana and I moved into our new house in 2019 Euro was done and then we had Covid that ended visits to Folkestone until 2021.  Here we are now in 2024 and it has been 20 months since we’ve been back to Folkestone. We were in England in October of 2023 but only in London. The days of sitting at my desk at La Miranda 27 are gone by five year now and my day before the big jump off to Folkestone is done from my new office space. It’s not as wide open as it was before but ultimately it’s perfect for writing. It also doubles as my modeling space. Sadly I have not utilized it as much as I would like to due to life matters. But here I sit on this last day before we head off to the airport to catch our flight to Gatwick and I am filled with both excitement and a bit of sadness. Excitement, obviously because we returning to Folkestone. What’s not to love? Clifton Hotel. A nice coffee on the terrace overlooking the Leas. Dinner at Rocksalt, Folkestone Wine Company, RestaurantMS with lunches in the Ocean Bleu and the Marco Pierre White Steakhouse. Shopping at Boots and Ashford Outlets and of course the dreamlike from Dover to Folkestone. A bit of sadness though as this is our last trip to Folkestone from Spain. You’re hearing it here first. We are moving on from the Costa Brava and I’ll be doing something truly exciting in Florida. Building a completely bespoke home office and modelling atelier in the form of a 180 square meter (2,000 square foot) addition on our home. I’m thrilled for it. And I’ll have my dream home office and modelling atelier on the second floor with a terrace and overlooking the golf course and lush tropical forest beside our house.

As the clock counts down the hours now until departure we face the reality that his is to be our final trip from Spain to Gatwick. Sure we’ll come again to England but it’ll be in October enroute to Holland for the SMC concorso and flying out from Miami. These oh so short commuter flights will be missed. As one chapter closes another opens.

It’s all right though, isn’t it? After all, the journey is everything.
