The email where it all began. The email from Philippa at The Clifton confirming my very first stay at the hotel which would in so many ways change my life. Recieved this in my apartment in NYC before R&R experienced explosive growth.
a and I are heading off to Folkestone. A certain week in September…
…um, actually no. August. Decided yesterday to share this with Daiana, but its been in my head for some time. Now it’s done. And on the cheap. Cadged a flight on the budget airline called Tui to Gatwick direct from Girona. Nice short commutes from house to aeropuerto. No need to deal with the long slog to Barcelona El Prat. So, it won’t be a certain weekend in September as it was in Euro Militaire days.
It begins anew nearly where it first began on August 20th 2003.

And email to The Clifton Hotel reception, replied to by a receptionist named Philippa. And here we are twenty-one years on and I’ve just now received conformation from reception at The Clifton from none other than Philippa. It’s all a bit last minute mind, but in keepi
ng with the whirlwind summer we’ve just been through. We were meant to be in Florida by this time. Our new house there completing an addition and renovations. But not one but two hurricanes changed all that and the house isn’t even started let alone completed. So no sense heading to Florida just yet.
Folkestone calling.
